Fire Fortress is a very entertaining war game with a lot of action and in which you have to stay alert at all times. Is not that different to several other games alike, but this one has a plus with a nice interface and great music and sound effects. There no background story or annoying introductions, as soon as you enter the game you can start playing with no previous distractions.
At the same time the game is pretty easy to play with no complicated rules. To prove that the game only offers a single page help to prepare you to play. The game basically consists in fighting with enemies from a canon unit you control. To aim your canon you just have to move your mouse and you can shot by left clicking with your mouse. If you keep the button pushed the canon keeps shooting, which is very convenient. You have several in field units available according to your needs, as follow:
- SAM Site: for air defense
- Gun Turret: ground defense
- Grenade Launcher: ground / sea defense
- Bio Launcher: ground / sea defense
- Mines: ground defense
- Sea Mines: sea defense
You can also access to canon upgrades. In order to buy those upgrades you can use the money you earn in each successful mission. There are three upgrades: Energy / Nuclear Plant: needed for canon upgrades; Hydraulic Upgrade: faster movement and shooting; Repair Shop: automatically repairs the canon.
When your canon or units are hit you will need to repair. Click the Repair units top right to repair all units. At the beginning of the game you are ranked Sergeant and start playing the Phase 01. In this phase the enemy is approaching our city and there is little time left. They are aiming for your side’s nuclear reactor. They will come in five waves of attack and there isn’t much support on that side of the river so you are basically you’re on your own. So your goal in this phase is to save the reactor.
When you enter the game, you’ll see the welcome screen with the following options:
- Start Mission: this option leads you right to the game. You will be shown the mission objectives and description.
- Go for Mayhem: this option lets you choose which phase to play.
- Instructions: it shows a single page help to learn the basics of the game.
- Exit full screen: to change the display mode.
- Exit Game: no further explanation required.
- Sound on/off.
